Former visiting Senior Fellow at The New School
Barry Herman is a former visiting Senior Fellow and visiting faculty in the Julian J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs, The New School.
Mr. Herman serves on the Core Team of the Global Coalition for Social Protection Floors and writes independently on various topics in international economic relations and development.
Mr. Herman worked for almost 30 years in the United Nations Secretariat, in the end leading a team undertaking research and supporting negotiations on international economic and financial issues, including in the summit on Financing for Development in Monterrey, Mexico (2002).
Since leaving the UN, he has written papers on international financial and development issues for the UN, the ILO, Brot für die Welt, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the World Council of Churches (in technical backstopping for the 2012 São Paulo Statement: International Financial Transformation for the Economy of Life”).
He is a founding member of the advisory board of Social Justice in Global Development, an international NGO. From 2006 to 2011, he was a founding member of the board of directors of Global Integrity.
Mr. Herman holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan, an MBA from the University of Chicago and an A.B. from Columbia University.
