Ghana, Akwamufie, June 21st, 2012
Members of Akwamufie Widows Association are united to celebrate the presence of public figure; Akumaa Mama Zimbi, and support WANE’s (Widows Alliance Network) palm kernel oil project at the site in Awkamufie. In Ghana, Mama Zimbi is renowned for her work involved in women’s rights, television, radio, and cinema. The Mama Zimbi Foundation (MZF) launched WANE in 2007, empowering Ghanaian widows on a social, economic, and cultural level. Three-hundred different types of programs have been formed since, offering career training programs in reproductive health, agriculture, sewing, and beekeeping. Due to WANE, these widows today play an important role in the environmental progression and reproductive health of the ten respective Ghanaian towns and communities.
