Janet Amoakowah, a widow from the Hikpo region in Ghana and member of WANE (Widows Alliance Network) is participating in the fourth National Widows Alliance Conference in Ghana’s capital, Accra. In 2007, the Mama Zimbi Foundation (MZF) launched WANE, empowering Ghanaian widows on a social, economic, and cultural level. Three-hundred different types of programs have been formed since, offering career training programs in reproductive health, agriculture, sewing, and beekeeping. Due to WANE, these widows today play an important role in the environmental progression and reproductive health of the ten respective Ghanaian towns and communities.
