Heinz Richter

Professor, University of Mannheim

Heinz Richter is a professor of modern Greek and Cypriot history and politics at the University of Mannheim in Germany.

He has over 22 published books and over 220 articles on Greek and Cypriot topics in various European and overseas scientific journals.

Richter studied History, Political science, English and American Studies 
at the University of Heidelberg. In 1967, he received a DAAD-Scholarship for research studies in Greece and in 2014, an honorary PhD from the University of Crete, Greece.

Eight of his books have been translated into Greek, two into English and one into Turkish. Since 1994, he and Professor Reinhard Stupperich have been working on the scholarly journal “THETIS,” that discusses Greek and Cypriot affairs from archaeology to current events.

In 1997, they published a monograph series called “PELEUS” which follows the same interdisciplinary concept. At the moment, Richter is working on the second volume of a concise history of Greece during the years 1939-2004.
