Jemma Kumba
Chairperson of the Permanent Committee for Economic Affairs, Sudan’s parliament of National Unity
Jemma Kumba was recently appointed to Sudan’s new parliament of National Unity where she serves as the chairperson of the Permanent Committee for Economic Affairs.
She is also a member of the Pan-African Parliament’s Committee for Cooperative International Relations and Conflict Resolution. In addition, as an adviser to the Sudan Peace Fund Consortium, Ms. Kumba works to build gender perspectives into grassroots peace-building efforts.
As one of the few women participants in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development peace negotiations, she lobbied and advocated for women’s needs and views in the formal negotiation process. Ms. Kumba was a member of the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) advance team sent to Juba in south Sudan for political mobilization and the establishment of SPLM offices.
Ms. Kumba previously served as the gender officer for Christian Aid, a British-based international development agency. She has worked with the World Health Organization in Namibia and served as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Ms. Kumba holds a degree in public administration and political science. She also has a diploma in leadership development for women and has received training in the monitoring and evaluation of development projects.
