Rashid Khalidi
Author and professor of Middle East history and politics
Rashid Khalidi is the Edward Said Chair in Arab Studies at Columbia University. From 1987 to 2003, he was the Professor of Middle East History and Director of the Center for International Studies at the University of Chicago, where he taught. He has also taught at the Lebanese University and the American University of Beirut — and at Georgetown and Columbia universities.
He received a B.A. in History from Yale University in 1970 and a Ph.D. in Modern History from Oxford University in 1974.
Khalidi is past President of the Middle East Studies Association, and is President of the American Committee on Jerusalem, and editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies. He was an advisor to the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations from October 1991 until June 1993.
He has written over seventy-five scholarly articles on various aspects of Middle East history and politics, as well as op-ed pieces in many top U.S. Newspapers. Dr. Khalidi has also been a guest on numerous radio and TV shows including All Things Considered, Talk of the Nation, Morning Edition, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer and Nightline, and on the BBC, the CBC, Radio France-Inter and the Voice of America.
