Thomas P.M. Barnett is a strategic planner who has worked in national security affairs since the end of the Cold War and has operated his own consulting practice (Barnett Consulting) since 1998.
Recently, Mr. Barnett founded a consulting partnership called The New Rule Sets Project. The consultancy was acquired by Enterra Solutions in August 2005, with Mr. Barnett as Senior Managing Director.
Previously, Thomas P.M. Barnett was a Senior Strategic Researcher and Professor in the Warfare Analysis & Research Department of the Center for Naval Warfare Studies at the U.S. Naval War College.
Prior to joining the War College in August 1998, Mr. Barnett served as a Project Director in both the Center for Naval Analyses and the Institute for Public Research — the two major divisions of The CNA Corporation (CNAC), a private research firm located in Alexandria, VA.
Mr. Barnett has written for several news publications including Esquire, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor and The Providence Journal.
Thomas P.M. Barnett is the author of “The Pentagon’s New Map: War and Peace in the Twenty-First Century” (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2004) and “Romanian and East German Policies in the Third World: Comparing the Strategies of Ceausescu and Honecker” (Praeger, 1992).
Dr. Barnett earned his PhD in political science from Harvard University in 1990.
