Zoran Nechev

Zoran Nechev is a PhD candidate at the Institute for European Studies at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He specializes in EU-Western Balkans relations and external dimensions of justice and home affairs.

Mr. Nechev heads the Center for EU integration of the Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis,” a think tank organisation from North Macedonia devoted to research and capacity-building in matters related to EU in general, and the enlargement process more specifically.

He is a member of the Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group. Since 2014, he has been an academic guest at the Center for International and Comparative Studies at ETH Zürich, examining the effects of the EU’s conditionality policy on rule of law in the Western Balkans.

As a former Senior Associate Fellow at the EU Institute for Security Studies, he was involved in activities related to the “Global Strategy,” resilience, Balkan Futures studies as well as justice and home affairs in the Western Balkans.
